STERLING
FOREST REPORT - Mike Gilman - Many miles of Equine Trails are included in
SF. Jim Gell, Park Superintendent has a plan to include horses in park.
Mike spoke to him on Friday, and he called Albany and called
Mike back to say that they said they would not welcome any assistance from
interested groups at this time, since their plans are in a very embryonic
state and they are not ready yet. He did mention that NY/NJ trail
conference has concerns that they will be maintaining trails that will be
used by other than hikers. It might be in order for us to have a small
group hike there, and try to meet Jim and intro ourselves again so he
keeps us in mind
Trails originally marked 10 years ago by OCHC.
We need to urge the manager of the trails to get the trails marked for
equine use regardless of condition of trails.
Suggested
that we try to take a hike down there, and perhaps we can talk to Jim Gell
to re-acquaint him with our group.
Next meeting
May 3 - Trudi Graham's home on Sarah Wells Trail
Next meeting
June 7 - Debbie Corr's home on Sarah Wells Trail
Spoke about getting together MHHTA members for trail rides or hunter
paces. Possible dates are Windy Hollow Hunt Paces or Stewart Ride.
More discussion to come.
